Epson DX5 Damper

Ink Damper for Epson DX5 Printheads — Regulate Ink Flow & Maintain Quality

The Ink Damper for Epson DX5 is a precision component that ensures consistent ink delivery to your printhead. It serves as a reservoir, filter, and pressure stabilizer, improving print quality and extending the life of sensitive Epson DX5-based print systems.

Purpose & Functionality

  • The damper holds ink between the cartridge and printhead, acting as a buffer.

  • A built-in 5 μm filter traps air bubbles and particles, preventing clogging and nozzle blockages

  • Its negative-pressure diaphragm prevents ink backflow or inconsistent delivery—especially during high-speed printing

Compatibility & Technical Specs

  • Compatible with Epson DX5 and related eco‑solvent/UV heads, as well as printhead-driven systems like i3200, XP600, and L1800 formats

  • Available in different port styles: small (Ø3 × 2 mm) or large (Ø4 × 2.8 mm) barb fittings depending on ink tubing setups

  • Housings are solvent- and UV-resistant to match eco‑solvent and UV ink media

Maintenance & Replacement

  • We recommend replacing dampers every 3–6 months or after printing approximately 5 liters per ink, whichever comes first, to avoid clogging and nozzle issues

  • Ideally, change dampers when installing a new printhead. A DX5 head typically requires 8 dampers per head

  • Before removal, clamp or pinch the ink line to prevent drips or loss of vacuum during fluid fill procedures

Benefits & Best Practices

  • Stabilizes ink flow and minimizes banding, nasty overprints, or nozzle starvation.

  • Protects valuable printhead electronics by filtering contaminants and regulating pressure.

  • Simple to install: plug directly onto inlet ports and replace original O‑rings to avoid leaks or air ingress

  • Using a fresh damper costs pennies compared to replacing the full DX5 head if damaged.
